MANY churches open their doors on Sunday evenings for worship, but Reverend Canon Ernle Gordon closes his so that the young people from the St Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Kingston can play friendly football, volleyball or netball matches with other youths from the community.
Sports evangelism, as it is commonly called by church members, has been a vehicle for change in the often-volatile Drewsland community where the church is located. Every Sunday evening the young people from the church and those from the surrounding community meet for about four hours to play on property owned by the church.
