CHINESE Ambassador to Jamaica, Chen Jinghua says the Chinese New Year has found growing relations between China and Jamaica, and promised there was more to come. The following is an excerpt of his address to the reception marking the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on January 21, 2011:
Over the past year, China has seen both joy and sorrow. After a 10.3 per cent growth, the Chinese economy became the world's second largest, with a GDP of US$6 trillion. The Chinese leadership, not complacent about the rapid GDP growth, came up with an outline of the 12th Five-Year Plan for China's Economic and Social Development (2011-2015), with emphasis on transforming the mode of development and building a more prosperous and harmonious society.

China also hosted international events ranging from the Shanghai World Expo, boasting over 70 million domestic and overseas visitors, to the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, another major international sports event held in China after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The Chinese people on both sides of Taiwan Strait forged closer ties with the signing of an Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement. Chang'e-2, a solar-powered lunar probe satellite, was launched for the second lunar probe, which will determine a site for China's first unmanned moon landing around 2013. In Chinese legend, Chang'e is a moon goddess dwelling on the moon with the Jade Rabbit, who we hope can be spotted by our satellite in the Year of the Rabbit.
